United Way Volunteer Center Collects Nominations for Annual Volunteer Awards
posted by: United Way of Greater Chattanooga
United Way’s Volunteer Center is accepting nominations for the annual Volunteer of the Year awards until Monday, April 21, 2008. The awards will be presented on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the “Chattanooga VOLS” awards recognition banquet.

Every year, companies of all sizes that are committed to community service and nonprofit organizations from across the area join together to celebrate volunteerism and to honor local volunteers for their efforts.

United Way’s Volunteer Center, the Community Volunteer Council and Directors of Volunteers in Agencies (DOVIA) annually host the awards recognition banquet during National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 27 to May 3, 2008. This year’s recognition event will be held Thursday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brainerd Crossroads (4011 Austin Street).

To nominate an outstanding volunteer, complete a nomination form online at www.uwchatt.org or print it to mail your submission. Return completed forms to the Volunteer Center at 630 Market Street Chattanooga, TN 37402 or fax to 423-267-8060.

One volunteer will be recognized from each of the following categories: Community, Education, Environment, Health and Youth. In addition to these awards, the Volunteer Center will recognize a local company committed to community involvement with the Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award. Companies may self-nominate.

Nominating Criteria
Judges will evaluate nominees on the following:
• Scope of Responsibility given to volunteer
• Attitude (Positivity, Team Player, Can-Do, Enthusiasm)
• Reliability (Consistency of Service, Personal Dedication)
• Uniqueness of Service (Initiative, Creativity)

Contact Toya Cobb, Volunteer Manager for United Way’s Volunteer Center, by calling 423-752-0316 or e-mail toyacobb@uwchatt.org for more information.

The Volunteer Center is part of the United Way of Greater Chattanooga, which funds local programs that create opportunities for people to care for themselves and each other, making our community the best at helping people achieve their potential. Thanks to an endowment fund that covers all overhead and administrative expenses, all contributions (100 percent) go directly to services that help individuals and families in 11 counties in the greater Chattanooga area, north Georgia and northeast Alabama.
