History of Grace Baptist Church
God organized the Grace Baptist Church in Heaven "before" it was
established in the City of South Pittsburg, Tn. God had a plan, and God had
a man.
On August 23, 1970 in the lobby of the
old Cameron Patton Hotel building
twenty people gathered together for
worship services at the place that would
soon be named Grace Baptist Church.
God indeed had a plan and God had
"his" man. That man was Ronnie Case,
a twenty-five year old preacher. Even
though Brother Ronnie had been
preaching for only one year, he had
been teaching a Bible class at Calvary
Baptist Church for more than five years. It was obvious that God was in
that place and he was orchestrating "his" plan.
As the weeks progressed more and more visitors, both the curious and the
doubters came out to see what in the world was going on! It was such an
awesome sight to see God work in a way that only He could do. There
were souls saved, people inspired, interesting things happening, and growing
so fast that we had to look at some place to re-locate because of the
crowds. It was absolutely amazing!!
After two years the church purchased land on the corner of sixth and Elm
and began to build a new church building. In September 1972 we had our
dedication service and asked God to continue to bless and use us in any
capacity he desired. Since that time we have witnessed God "honoring" our
faith and continue to instruct, inspire, and use us in many ways.
Today, even though it has been thirty-seven years we have found God to be
"all" he said he would be, and has done greater things than I could ever
imagine!! In April 2006 the church put Brother Ronnie on as a full time
pastor.
Some have asked "what is the secret of your growth?" Really, there is no
secret... Other churches have been started and never moved forward or
gathered much fruit. What made this church different?
The first thing that comes to my mind is, God "has" to be the founder! This
church is "not" a product of Ronnie Case!!! This church is Gods work,
founded on the Word of God, the Holy Spirit is the controlling force, and
obedience to his commands through faith will see Supernatural results!
Secondly, the things that make this church what it is, is the co-operation
among its members. When a church loves God...they will love one another.
Thirdly, to be a successful church you have to have commitment from the
members. Singers, teachers, musicians, etc. Have a place of importance in
the church and there must be a spirit of faithfulness from their position.
Fourthly, a love for the poor and needy. This church has always maintained
a spirit of benevolence to the members of the congregation and the
surrounding community.
Another thing of great importance is missions! Missions are the back-bone
of Christianity. Without missionaries we would not even have a church
today. We place a lot of emphasis on missions, both home and foreign.
Last, but certainly not the least is following Gods man as he follows the
Lord. There is a difference in a preacher preaching a "sermon", and bringing
a "message". When a church honors the man of God. - God will honor that
church. This church excels in this area and will continue to see the hand of
God placed on it as long as this order is followed.
As a final parting word, we do not look at our youth as "the church of
tomorrow"; rather we view them as part of this church today. We are
blessed beyond measure to have such an outstanding group of young people
in our church and anticipate a bright future for them as they continue to
grow in the Lord and learn from the older Christians.
This is a brief history and a few points about the present in regards to the
Grace Baptist Church. The miracles and the unbelievable things that God
has manifested for over thirty-seven years will be coming at a later date. To
borrow a statement from John the beloved, "the world could not contain the
books that should be written about the Lord!" - We praise and thank him!
